Green Scheme Of The Slovenian Tourism

The Green Scheme of Slovenian Tourism (GSST) is a tool developed at the national level and a certification programme that carries out the following tasks under the SLOVENIA GREEN umbrella brand:

  • brings together all efforts directed towards the sustainable development of tourism in Slovenia,
  • offers tools to destinations and service providers that enable them to evaluate and improve their sustainability endeavours and
  • promotes these green endeavours through the Slovenia Green brand.

It is based on the idea that Slovenia IS, ACTS AND PROMOTES green. The GSST is based on the European Tourism Indicators System (ETIS) and on the global criteria of the Green Destinations Standard (GDS), awarded by the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC), which therefore also applies to SLOVENIA GREEN.

The green scheme is further explained by STO in the following document: https://www.slovenia.info/uploads/zelena_shema/2021_02_sto_zsst_ang_v02.pdf . However, the best and the most explanatory example can be found on the following map that covers all holders of the SloveniaGREEN lable.

The wellbeing destination, covered in the DETOUR project, also includes the mountain Pohorje, with Rogla as its most western location (https://www.rogla-pohorje.si/en). The slogan of Rogla is: explore, feel, enjoy. As one enters Rogla-Pohorje, one is immediately exposed to unspoiled nature and a world of authentic tradition that they have maintained with love and perseverance for centuries. Wherever the visitor is, he will be in touch with extraordinary nature. Green nature of Rogla is available for unforgettable experiences, and one can return the hospitality to it by taking care of its purity and integrity. As they say: “Admire the beauties and make sure they stay that way too.”

By visiting the vast Pohorje forests, you have to travel green; visit places on foot, by bicycle or electric vehicle. The wellbeing part can be enjoyed by experiencing the authentic way of life: take part in home chores and support the maintenance of the Pohorje lifestyle. Choose and eat locally grown food, prepared the traditional way and according to local customs that follow the seasonal rhythms of nature. Sustainable gastronomy  is the motto.

Finish your wellbeing experience with a walk among the tree tops (https://www.potmedkrosnjamipohorje.si/en/) . The Tree Top Walk is located in the heart of the majestic forests of Rogla at the altitude of 1 517 metres. It will show you what makes the nature of Pohorje mountains unique. You will get to know the local forests from the roots to the tree tops, become a part of forest life and meet a number of animals and plants that you won´t find anywhere else.

The walk also has an educational and adventurous side: During your trip along the Walk (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=td00xSI3KJ4), you can stop at several adrenaline stops. Children and adults alike can try to keep balance over a fake, yet dangerously looking abyss. There are also  several educational stops, which will handover you information about the local fauna and flora. And at the end, for a faster return, a more than 80 meter-long dry slide runs in the middle of the observation tower; to shorten your way back down while enjoying a healthy dose of adrenaline.
